On October 26, a delegation led by Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, President of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, visited Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park.

Welcoming the guests Deputy Minister of Economy Niyazi Safarov emphasized implementation of consistent and systematic reforms under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to modernize the industry, diversify and develop the non-oil industry based on innovations. It was noted that program documents were adopted in this area and incentive mechanisms were applied to improve the business and investment climate and support entrepreneurial activity. The successes of Azerbaijan are highly appreciated by international financial institutions. Thus, in the World Bank's Doing Business 2019 report, Azerbaijan ranked 34th among 190 countries, and included in the list of the top-20 reformers.

Deputy Minister informed about industrial parks and industrial estates created in accordance with the industrialization policy implemented in the country to give new impetus to the development of competitive industry based on innovative and high technologies, ensure sustainable development of the non-oil sector and increase employment. It was noted that there are 5 industrial parks and 4 industrial estates in Azerbaijan. There are 44 residents in industrial parks, 24 of which have already begun their production. To date, 5.7 billion AZN were invested to industrial parks, about 9 000 jobs have been created. There are 38 residents in industrial estates, and 22 of them have already begun production.

In addition, speaking about the cooperation of Azerbaijan with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Niyazi Safarov noted that this Organization had been working in a number of areas in Azerbaijan, including energy efficiency, development of national industrial statistics programs, support for small and medium-sized businesses, improvement of the environmental situation and many other projects.

President of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande praised the work done in Azerbaijan in economic, industrial, social and other fields. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande noted that the establishment of industrial zones in the regions of Azerbaijan is very important for the development of non-oil industry in the country and ensuring the level of employment.

During the meeting a video presentation on the activities of industrial parks was presented.

Then the guests became acquainted with the work implemented in SOCAR Polymer LLC, which is the resident of Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, and they watched a video showing the activities of this enterprise.
