Today, Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, the first industrial park in Azerbaijan, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its establishment.

The Industrial Park was established by the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 21, 2011 with the aim of creating favorable conditions for the development of competitive industrial production in the country on the basis of innovative and high technologies, supporting entrepreneurship in this area, ensuring sustainable development of the non-oil sector and promoting employment in the production sector.

The Industrial Park, which produces and processes competitive products (works, services) in the petrochemical and other priority sectors, has a major part in the development of the non-oil sector of the country, the production of new products and the expansion of export potential, and the efforts in this direction continue on a permanent basis.

When the Industrial Park was created, it occupied an area of ​​about 168 hectares. Currently, the area of ​​the park expanded to 583.5 hectares. 25 businesses with a total investment in the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park of more than 5.4 billion manat received resident status, 17 of them are active. At the moment, 5.1 billion manat has been invested, providing about 5700 people with permanent jobs.

Currently, the SCIP produces nitrogen fertilizers, polymers, ferroalloys, tobacco products, agrochemicals, bags for industrial use, medical face masks, glass plates and other novelties, which were imported in previous periods. In addition to meeting domestic demand, these products are exported to more than 30 countries under the Made in Azerbaijan brand.

In general, residents of the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park made a sale of 4.4 billion manat, of which 1.5 billion manat, i.e. about 34% falls on exports. Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park demonstrates positive growth in production and exports. So, since the start of the Industrial Park’s operation until 2021, products worth 2.5 billion manat have been produced, while in 11 months of 2021 alone, the production amounted to 1.9 billion manat. Also, since the start of the Industrial Park until 2021, products worth 764 million manat have been exported, while the export of the same amount were made in 11 months of 2021 alone.

Addendum: After the establishment of the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, 6 more industrial parks were created in our country, including the industrial parks of Balakhani, Mingachevir, Garadagh, Pirallahi, Aghdam and "Araz Valley Economic Zone".
